Moving Together Online Classes

ABOUT

Moving Together are drop-in movement classes facilitated by Carly Tanur and Dannali Wilson, both trained Expressive Movement facilitators.

We started teaching in-person classes in Cape Town in 2019, and in 2020, in response to the pandemic, we moved our weekly classes online. We miss moving together in person, but we are loving how our dancing community has extended to friends and family all over the world.

Classes take place every second Monday at 19:00 pm SAST.

Follow us on Facebook or join our broadcast-only Whatsapp group to get class updates.

Classes are offered on a sliding scale.

If the full fee is beyond what you can afford right now, feel free to select the reduced fee option. If you are in a position to select the "Pay it Forward" option, you will be helping us offer free or reduced spots to others. Please select according to what feels right for you.

Class fee: R100 Full Fee | R50 Reduced Fee | R150 Pay it forward (Full Fee + Pay it Forward contribution).

WHAT TO EXPECT

For those of you who are new to this, Expressive Movement is an embodied practice of self-exploration, a movement meditation. The classes offer you the chance to drop into your body, to listen in and to move with whatever is present for you. The facilitator plays music and offers prompts throughout the class to guide and support you. There are no choreographed steps. No getting it right or wrong. All that is required is that you stay present and listen for how your body wants to move. No prior dance experience is needed. Everyone can dance. Every body is welcome.

We ask that you please read through these guidelines before joining a class:

Our intention is that the dance enables you to connect with yourself, and others, in a way that helps you to feel more comfortable, free and at home in your body. The guidelines offered below support this intention.

Preparation: Clear the space where you will be dancing, so it is free of any obstacles and gives you open space to move in. You are welcome to light a candle, burn incense or do whatever makes this time for yourself a little more special. If possible, we encourage you to turn off all distractions (such as phones or notifications on your computer). Less distractions allow you to be more present to yourself and your dance. Each person’s sound set-up is different. We encourage you to set up, login and test your sound before the class.

Permission: There is no getting anything right or wrong, no particular way you are expected to move. You have full permission to show up as you are and move in whatever way feels most nourishing for you.

Connection: Although many of us are dancing alone in our homes, it is important to remember that there is still a container holding us all. We remain connected even though we are not physically together. If you feel comfortable, keeping your video on may help you to stay connected to the group. If having your video on is distracting for you, and you feel more able to drop into your dance, with the camera off – feel free to do that too.

Inclusion: Moving Together is a space for every body. If there is anything that is a barrier to you being able to fully participate in the classes, please be in touch with us about this.

Once you have paid for your class, you will receive the zoom login details via email.
