Haven't the last 2 years been taxing on our emotions? While Mandela Day is a day for 67 minutes of active citizenry, our Learning in Reach team feel that the most important thing we can ALL do right now is ACTIVELY RECONNECT and CELEBRATE our continued friendships and partnerships which work EVERY DAY towards building quality foundations for South Africa's most vulnerable children.

Homegrown Lavender Hill talent, "That Comedy Chick" Arlene Petersen joins us with some of her comedian friends to celebrate the special place where we work, the incredible people we work with and their chilling and heartwarming stories.

Arlene Petersen was born and raised in Retreat but moved to Lavender Hill as a teenager, where she currently resides. Her comedy style is a mix of social observations, life experiences and talking pure nonsense. She is the only comedian who had the honour to perform comedy for Y?Gen Entertainment in 2020 and in 2019 she made the top 9 finalists as the only Coloured to perform at the Baxter Theatre for the Kasi World Comedy Show Down battling for a spot at The Cape Town Jive Funny Festival. Even though she didn't win the competition she clearly left her mark because she has now been selected to perform at the Cape Town Jive Funny Festival 2022 as the only female on the line up.

While we've asked Arlene to be there to lift everyone's spirits, she herself has an inspirational story that is testament to the trauma and daily struggles our colleagues and beneficiaries face in their lives, and to the strength, tenacity and human spirit that overcomes all obstacles.
