ABOUT

Halala Africa Dinner & Show!

The Music

A two-hour journey through the soaringly beautiful music produced in South Africa from the 1960s to present day.

Genres include folk, jazz, rock and pop from musicians like Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg, Vicky Sampson, eVoid, Springbok Nude Girls, Freshly Ground and more! All pumped out by a drums, bass, keyboard, guitar, sax and penny whistle playing and singing 9 piece band!

The Stories

The sad, the happy, the funny and often staggering stories round that music, narrated by our story-telling maestro producer, with animated audio-visuals.

For example, how did the Apartheid government completely misunderstand the Meadowlands song with hilarious results. Or why is there a band Called Springbok Nude Girls? Why wasn’t Bright Blue arrested for playing banned music?

The Cuisine

All rounded off with servings of the most famous South African cuisine, served tapas-style, in a taste-bud dazzling 5-course meal.

Meals include dishes like bobotie, pap en sous, vetkoek and mince, braaied snoek, koeksisters and malva pudding.

I really want to thank you for such a wonderful evening last night!

The band was so animated and into the music. And those VOICES! Oh my word!

Gosh so much nostalgia!

I am a very proud South African who found this musical and food journey through South Africa’s last 50 years, moving and inspiring.

I am so in awe of the musicians - so talented.

The show was worth a lot more than we paid for it as it brought so many memories and emotions out for me - and a load of goosebumps!

Please please please do another one! The world needs to see this show!

An amazing, vibey experience that I would recommend to all if an opportunity arises. Not to be missed!

What an amazing, full-bodied show. The music covered most generations of music. I particularly enjoyed and appreciated the ‘story’ behind each song.

A high 5 to the catering team. Most delicious.

What an INCREDIBLE show last night!!! WOW!!! Highly recommended this!! Showcasing the best of the best of South African music from the 60's onwards. Many artists who were never recognised and celebrated the way they should have been because of the apartheid regime. Each song came with an interesting backstory introduction. Amazing musicians, singers, authentic African cuisine, an absolute must for South Africans and non South Africans alike! If you missed this, you definitely missed out Waiting in anticipation for the next event. An evening very well spent!
