Carla Stokes is a jazz saxophonist, bandleader, educator and producer from Cape Town, South Africa. She has been a trained musician her entire life since age eight. She started learning music formally at school, studying classical clarinet and piano. 

When Carla started high school and joined her school's orchestra and jazz band, she fell in love with Jazz and the sound of the tenor sax, her now primary instrument. She then went on to study a BMus degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Cape Town’s College of Music. She's been gigging professionally since age 15, performing in many band setups and playing various styles of music. Some notable bands include The UCT Big Band, The Lady Day Big Band, and local bands such as Los Tacos and Crimson House. 

From traditional big bands, to Jazz, Rock and Pop bands, to performing Indian music or jamming sax alongside a DJ, Carla is a versatile and active musician in the Cape Town music scene. 

Carla's self-produced original music, available on all platforms, has influences of jazz saxophone styles fused with electronic elements. She hopes to give you a little sonic escape from the pressures of daily life, if only for a couple of minutes, and hopes you'll leave feeling uplifted.
