ABOUT

Chi Chi Juan is a grade 11 student studying at Crawford International College Sandton.

She has started her musical journey since the age of 8, and she is currently a student of professor Joseph Stanford.

Music holds a special place in her heart and is something she’s deeply passionate about.

She has taken part in numerous competitions both as a soloist and in ensembles. She was the Overall Winner for the National Eisteddfod Academy Competition in 2021, and the First Prize Winner for the National SASMT Pretoria Ensemble competition for 13 years and 16 years and under categories.

In 2018, Chi-Chi completed her Trinity Advanced Ensemble exam with a distinction.

She has performed with the Rand Symphony Orchestra this year in June and will be performing with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra this year in November.

Some of her highlights include performing in the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2019, and the Musiekverein in Vienna this year in April.

Daniël Spies (16) started with flute lessons with Helen Vosloo. Since then, he has performed as soloist with the Rand Symphony Orchestra and the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2019, he played in a piano quartet with Michael Tsalka. In 2018, he was the winner of the Phillip H. Moore Music Competition for the category 11-12. In the same year, he was the Runner up at the Hubert van Der Spuy Music Competition, where he also won the audience, Best Woodwind Player and Best Baroque Player Prizes. In 2019, he was the winner of the National Eisteddfod Associations Young Performers Awards and in the same year, he passed his grade 7 UNISA music exam with a distinction and he appears on UNISA’s Roll of Honour. In 2021, he was the 3rd prize winner at the National Youth Music Competition and will be taking part in the international Woodwind Competition in Bloemfontein in October of this year.
