Gorgeous George

ABOUT

Join us for a visual and sonic experiment: A 3-part kerfuffle of costume, sound and visuals as three Joburg acts come together at Gorgeous George this coming Wednesday for an evening of original music with: Albino Pigeon, Destination Unknown and Uh Oh! Joined by projection artist by Nicola Pilkington.

(There has been a line up change and mood shift, due to the unfortunate news that Club Valley has had to stay in Joburg during this time. (Sad faces) - we're sorry!)

7PM (Doors Open)

8PM: Set 1: Albino Pigeon | Destination Unknown

9PM: Set 2: Uh Oh!

Albino Pigeon:

A futuristic ride into the vast sphere of neo-psychedlic electronica lies ahead. Experimenting with the merger of shangaan electro and forest rhythms from the North.

Albino Pigeons drum and bass influences clashes with a multitude of sounds to accompany you on your voyage into unknown musical realms.

Destination Unknown:

Athi Ngcaba presents Destination Unknown, an ensemble exploring the convergence of tradition, cultural preservation; of history, identity and other related concepts from the perspective of young musicians navigating the intersection between culture, heritage, and modern life. This exploration through improvised sound, looks into sonically carving a path to the 'Unknown'; a place of familiarity. This is an invitation in the exploration of redefinition of creative spaces, a facilitation of a deeper understanding of 'culture', exploring its relevance; whilst pushing the boundaries of what constitutes and is understood as a space and valid expression.

Uh Oh!:

Uh Oh! - a Johannesburg-based alternative folk band. Their songs (a fusion of playful rhythms and dreamy melodies) contemplate interpersonal vulnerability and conflict. Through their thoughtful lyricism and arrangements, Uh Oh! recalls ‘70s folk with an admiration for art-pop and jazz sensibilities. The group is made up of Senna-Marie [Songwriter, Vocalist, guitarist], Ryan Schultze [Producer, Co-composer, Pianist], Keegan Latham [Bassist], Nicholas Bjorkman [Drummer], Athi Ngcaba [Trombone Player] and Pamela King [Backing Vocalist]. They perform regularly and are currently in-studio preparing their full length album set for release in 2024.

For the curious! ;)

This event will include individual performances by each artist.
