Object to be made : Each participant will make two medieval-style spindles for grasped or semi-grasped hand spinning. These spindles with a relatively small, center-weighted whorl can be used for spinning with or without a distaff and they also work well for supported spinning.
Technique: Whorls will be shaped from polymer clay and bamboo or wooden shafts will be sanded to shape by hand.
Requirements: All materials and tools will be provided.
A separate workshop for learning how to spin on a medieval-style spindle is available on 27 April 2-5pm.
Please note entry into Kirstenbosch not included in ticket price but participants only pay R60 student entrance fee on presentation of their Quicket booking ticket.
