Introducing Sonik Citizen and Cape Tone is a carefully selected program of songs that best showcases the vision and sound of the trio, Sonik Citizen and Cape Tone.

Sonik Citizen and Cape Tone puts the ‘song’ (and it’s lyrics) before all else. Afro and soul music are at the centre of this trio’s compositions and sound.

All 14 tracks were written and composed by Sonik Citizen (aka Mark Fransman) and introduces audiences to a (sonic and social) perspective that is uniquely Southern African and Capetonian.

Sonik Citizen and Cape Tone is the brainchild of 2 times SAMA (South African music award) winning producer and multi-award winning artist, Sonik Citizen (aka Mark Fransman). Mark Fransman is no stranger to acclaim, having been recognized with numerous awards throughout his illustrious career, including the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in 2008. His recent album, "Introducing Sonik Citizen and Cape Tone," earned him the Mzantsi Jazz Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2023.

Paul Tizzard takes the seat of drummer and anchor of the trio with Eugene Ackerman (on bass) being the purveyor of groove. Inspired by their love for the Cape goema music (and culture), they produce a sound that can best be described as Cape Tone.

Multi-instrumentalist Mark Fransman front’s the group with his unique soul-inspired voice and features him on piano, guitars, saxophones, flutes, bass clarinet and tunes percussion. Fully embracing his identity as Sonik Citizen, the citizen of sound.
