ABOUT

The Soweto String Quartet is a world renowned, award winning, string quartet from Soweto in South Africa composed of Sandile Khemese, Thami Khemese, Makhosini Mnguni and Themba Mashobane. Their music is a fusion of the "dance rhythms of Kwela, the syncopated guitars of Mbaqanga, the saxophones and trumpets of swaying African Jazz and the voices of people singing in joyous, easy harmony".

This concert will showcase a variety of music in collaboration with the Makhanda Community Orchestra, Rhodes Musicology, String groups from Diocesan School for Girls and St Andrews College, Victoria Girls High, Kingswood College and Access Music Project.

This exciting performance, promises to be a memorable afternoon featuring a 6 piece band, 60 piece orchestra and choir on one stage conducted by Johan Pretorius. This will be the 1st collaboration of its kind for Soweto String Quartet and the community of Makhanda.
